Hi GWR, Action starts at 9 seconds. I used commercial jelly beans and a commercial straw, but I do not have 6 shot glasses. All jelly beans were randomised beforehand, as you can see me doing in the preparations. I believe all rules have been followed. Regards, Alastair.

About This Challenge

The fastest jellybean sorting by straw is 16.88 seconds, achieved by Alastair Galpin (New Zealand), in Auckland, New Zealand, on 5 August 2012.

Challenge Rules

  • You must use jellybeans of minimum size 15mm long.
  • There should be 5 distinct colours, and 6 jellybeans of each colour.
  • The jellybeans are to be arranged in a random fashion on a plate on a table in front of you, with five receptacles (heavy-based cups or shot glasses are recommended) arranged on one side of the plate.
  • You must use a commercially-available drinking straw of minimum length 150mm.
  • You may only use one hand - your other hand must remain behind your back at all times.
  • You must suck the jellybean against the straw and transfer it to the appropriate receptacle. If the jellybean falls off the straw before reaching the receptacle, it must be returned to the plate using the straw before you may continue with the attempt.
  • If a jellybean falls into the wrong receptacle, your attempt is invalid.
  • You may have the straw in your hand before the attempt starts.
